The Citadel Research Project

In 2023, SC CIC began partnering with The Citadel on a long-term critical infrastructure research project. The goal of the project is for cadets majoring in Cybersecurity and other Computer Sciences degrees to create custom sector-specific threat profiles for each of the 16 CISA-identified sectors that capture the highest risks to each, along with recommendations on how to remediate those risks. Each semester, students choose the sector they are most interested in researching and are paired with SC CIC Cyber Liaison Officers (CLOs) working in that sector. This allows the students to get firsthand information about threats their chosen sector is facing while also facilitating a professional networking connection for the future. So far, cadets have created sector threat profiles for four sectors: Energy, Nuclear, Transportation, and Water and Wastewater Systems.

Palmetto Cyber Defense Competition (PCDC)

The Palmetto Cyber Defense Competition, or PCDC, challenges high school and college student’s cybersecurity skills in a competitive setting. The all-day event allows teams of six to defend their networks from red team attacks while ensuring business functions continue. The competition is followed by an awards ceremony complete with networking opportunities and is an excellent way to foster connections both with and for the future cybersecurity workforce in South Carolina.
