Chemical | South Carolina Critical Infrastructure Cybersecurity

The Chemical Sector encompasses organizations that are involved in the production and transportation of raw chemical materials that are converted to the various products necessary to support modern life in the United States. The sector is categorized into four components, all of which are represented within the state of South Carolina:

Basic chemicals (e.g. petrochemicals)
Specialty chemicals (e.g. adhesives, food additives, fragrances)
Agricultural chemicals (e.g. pesticides, fertilizers)
Consumer products (e.g. soaps, cosmetics, paints)

South Carolina is home to more than 200 chemical organizations across the state.

SC CIC supports the chemical sector by providing chemical organizations and professionals access to the information sharing network facilitated through the Cyber Liaison Officer (CLO) program, along with continuously monitoring the threat landscape of South Carolina and its chemical sector entities.

The South Carolina Department of Environmental Services (SCDES) - Bureau of Air Quality is the primary state agency for regulating and monitoring chemical manufacturing as it relates to air quality. Their website provides invaluable information and resources on the topic.

CISA | Chemical Sector Webpage

CISA’s Chemical Sector webpage contains detailed information on what types of organizations belong to the Commercial Facilities Sector in the U.S. along with federal plans for the sector (Commercial Facilities Sector-Specific Plan) and all critical infrastructure in the country (National Infrastructure Protection Plan (NIPP)). Sector-specific plans address how the NIPP should be utilized while considering each sector’s unique perspective.

American Chemistry Council (ACC)| Chemical Sector Member ISAC

Information Sharing & Analysis Centers (ISACs) help critical infrastructure professionals protect their infrastructure and employees from cybersecurity threats through the collection, analysis, and dissemination of threat information. ISACs help increase situational awareness across the critical infrastructure sectors through information sharing, partnerships, and networking opportunities.

South Carolina Manufacturers Alliance | Chemistry Council

The South Carolina Chemistry Council is a division of the South Carolina Manufacturers Alliance whose goal is to improve and enhance chemical manufacturing in South Carolina. This alliance allows professionals within the Chemistry sector to network, information-share, and partake in legislative advocacy for the sector.
