The Government Services and Facilities Sector includes organizations controlled by federal, state, local, and tribal governments, along with the cybersecurity elements that contribute to the protection of sector assets and the individuals who perform essential functions for the sector.

The sector also includes three subsectors: Education Facilities, Election Infrastructure, and National Monuments and Icons.

In South Carolina, this sector includes:

  • 46 counties
  • 271 incorporated towns and cities
  • 9 state-recognized tribes
  • A federally recognized tribe

The Government Services and Facilities Sector is the largest group represented within SC CIC, so it is a special focus for its initiatives. SC CIC facilitates regionally based cybersecurity tabletop exercises (TTX) utilizing tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs) from real world cybersecurity incidents and scenarios available to all participants in this sector.

To address the elections subsector, SC CIC is also partnered with the South Carolina Election Commission (SEC) to ensure the readiness of county IT directors and voter registration directors to securely facilitate voting in the state. Through this partnership, regional meetings are hosted to communicate best practices and the latest relevant threats to elections staff. Security assessments are also completed at each county that provide invaluable information for SC CIC to continue developing services that best serve the sector based on real data.
