The Commercial Facilities Sector consists of private facilities that have open public access and draw large groups of people. The sector has eight subsectors, including:
- Entertainment and Media (e.g., motion picture studios, broadcast media)
- Gaming (e.g., casinos)
- Lodging (e.g., hotels, motels, conference centers, RV parks and campgrounds)
- Outdoor Events (e.g., theme and amusement parks, fairs, parades, exhibitions, parks, marathons)
- Public Assembly (e.g., arenas, stadiums, aquariums, zoos, museums, convention centers)
- Real Estate (e.g., office and apartment buildings, condominiums, mixed-use facilities, self-storage)
- Retail (e.g., retail centers and districts, shopping malls)
- Sports Leagues (e.g., professional sports leagues and federations)
The Commercial Facilities Sector, while important, is seen as less critical in cybersecurity threat rankings compared to other sectors because of its projected impact on national security and public safety. A cyberattack on the sector is more likely to lead to financial losses rather than halting essential services. Although the economic costs can be high, they typically do not impact the core infrastructure that keeps critical services running.
SC CIC services can be provided to organizations representing this sector, but they are offered on a case-by-case basis.
