The Communications Sector plays an invaluable role in ensuring that critical infrastructure organizations in every sector can communicate internally, to one another, and to the public. The interconnectedness of the sector and the cascading impact that a cyber-attack could have on other critical infrastructure sectors makes a strong case for ensuring that appropriate cybersecurity measures are in place to protect it. The dramatic changes in how people communicate with the rise of the Internet have rapidly altered the landscape of the sector from being mainly voice service-centered to a diverse ecosystem of technologies and ways of transmitting data. These changes also increased the complexity of securing these systems, a challenge that SC CIC and all sector partners work together to meet.
SC CIC supports the Communications Sector by providing cybersecurity services to communications entities within South Carolina to secure not only their systems, but also equip communications personnel with the awareness of cyber threats targeting their sector. This is achieved through targeted trainings and workshops, presentations, and monthly webinars detailing the current threat landscape in South Carolina and offering tangible actions for organizations to take in response.
